ESA Magnetic Brake 2

In the project „Magnetic Brake 2“, the consortium (incl. ESA) develops a high-resolution, contact-free brake for space actuators which allows for highly precise positioning of antennas, thrusters or solar arrays.

The contact-free operation removes the risk of cold-welding or clogging, thus improving the reliability of critical space components.

To this purpose, LCM is researching a novel electromagnetic principle and is incorporating it into a magnetic brake design which is then built by project partner IIES and tested and evaluated by AAC.
